Coasteering FAQ's
It is an adventure sport which involves coastal exploration. When you coasteer you navigate and traverse an area of coastline at sea level. You do this by rock climbing, sea level traversing, scrambling, swimming, sea cliff jumping and even belly flopping along the coast.
You’ll explore the impact zone, where water, waves, rocks, gullies, caves etc., come together to provide a very high energy environment. You will get an entirely new dimension of the coastline you explore. You get very close to the natural habitat of sea life and fauna.
Coasteering is a very safe adventure sport. You do jump from rocks and scramble along the coastline, so there is an element of risk. Your coasteer guide always has safety at the forefront of their mind, though.
Your coasteer guide will check the tide and the sea state before your trip. Checks on your safety equipment to make sure it fits effectively are important too. If your guide feels that the risks are too high, then your coasteer will be rescheduled. It should be noted that the minimum age is 10 years old.
You’ll need some essential equipment. Firstly a warm wetsuit, an excellent quality buoyancy aid and helmet, some trainers and some shorts to wear over your wetsuit.
The wetsuit will keep you warm while you coasteer. The buoyancy aid and helmet will help to keep you safe. A pair of trainers are essential so that you can grip the rocks. Shorts help protect your body and your wetsuit as you slide down the rocks in gullies.
When booking with Surfing Croyde Bay, you will be kitted out with all the necessary safety gear. For your session you will just need to bring swimwear, a pair of old trainers, shorts and a towel for changing afterwards.
