Meet our team!
This is Alex B, it’s great to have her back from uni for her second season with us. Alex is known for always bringing fun, positive energy to our lessons. We’re stoked to have her as a part of surfing Croyde Bay! Get to know Alex:
How did you get into surfing?
I had surf lessons back when I was a young child but didn’t return properly to surfing until I was 16. Once I left school I started devoting more time to improving my surfing and started getting addicted to it once again!
Being able to enjoy it all while being out there with friends is one of the parts of surfing that I love most. Plus I’m quite competitive so I enjoy trying to beat my mates to get the best wave of the day!
Why did you become a surf instructor?
I still remember my first surf lessons really vividly and how much I looked up to the instructors who taught me. I had so much fun and was never nervous about making mistakes or falling off. My goal is to always create the same environment in every lesson and show people how much fun surfing can be, and that there’s no pressure to be perfect.
What do you enjoy most in a surf lesson?
It’s great watching people’s confidence in themselves grow as the lesson goes on and become more confident in their abilities. Whether that be by starting to paddle for their own waves, attempting new manoeuvres or just by feeling more comfortable in the sea. It’s awesome to be a part of teaching someone a whole new skill and seeing the positive effects surfing can have.
Why do you work at Surfing Croyde Bay?
It’s the kind of place where you’re excited to go to work everyday! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and the surf school really breaks the stigma that surfing can be intimidating as everyone who works here is always so willing to help you out.
It’s been awesome doing these interviews with our instructors, it reminds us why we do what we do. We’re lucky to have instructors like Alex as a part of our crew!👊
